I did! I did spend it all in one place: on smoked salmon at Trader Joe's. A more delicious form of fish oil. I hope we can bring that energy again soon, and maybe facilitate some C&J PRs Today was less exciting...I basically treated it as a recovery/lazy bum day. Spent a lot of time bullshitting with the other lifters. I also let Csaba give me some coaching while Roger is gone. I try to take everything he says with many grains of salt, but some of his advice seems sound. One thing I'm still uncertain about is my snatch grip width. Some people have told me to widen it, but Roger thinks it's working for me. I have long monkey arms, so it would make sense, but Charley says that the grip I'm using now is a good width when I'm in the hole. Snatch: up to 49xf+1, 2, 50xf,f, 45x a bunch of practice C&J: up to 61x1,1+f, then 55x3 Bk Sq: up to 70x4x4 I had intended to go heavy on the clean and jerk, but my body just wasn't cooperating. I think I am still run down from Saturday and whatever sinus plague I have. It was still a fun day in the gym, though, and I learned lots of dirt on some of the old-timers

Also, I am trying to get better with taking care of myself when not lifting. I am making an effort to eat more eggs and red meat, which I think help my recovery. Also, remembering to take my vitamins and such. I think I might start taking creatine (probably not until after Star of the North, because it might make it hard to make weight). I am also going to try harder to pack healthy and high protein snacks when I'm on the road, instead of grabbing the evil, evil snacks my BF keeps around. I just need to find a protein drink that I actually want to drink (and isn't full of sugar), since now I have a small bottle for milk and a little lunch cooler.
Fortunately, I know someone who runs a supplement company!

That's great to hear. I know my recovery is much better when I am eating very clean and on a regular diet. Also, I know I have more "natural" energy and I sleep WAY better. Just 2 things people usually don't think about but it really really helps that out when you are on a consistent diet and eating nutritionally dense foods! I'll send you a message tonight with some info if ya want?

Lifting was OK today, but I was really tired after a long week. Seems like the part of me that's most affected is my back and 'core', which I have a hard time keeping tight. Lifted at Holly's house again. Probably need to get back to my regular gym so I can get some coaching.
C&J: up to 63x1, then back down to 60x1x3, then 55x1x2 Snatch: up to 48x1, then back down to 45 for a few doubles (both lifts had a bunch of misses) Triceps Pulls?: 15 kg x 12, 12, 25x6, 20x12,5 Ab Rollouts
The triceps pulls involved holding the bar very close grip (on the smooth part) and pulling upward to the chest. Ab rollouts I don't usually get to do because the platforms are too gross.

Haha I am only willing to get so close to my team-mates' pubes. Today was super fun! We had a full house: me, Natalie, Holly, Breon, Dan M, Ben, my brother, his GF and his friend. Charley seems to have had an attitude adjustment, so he was getting along with people well. Roger seemed happy to have such a full gym. Aaaaaalso, Holly and I went to see the MN State bodybuilding show at Mystic Lake My first time watching bodybuilding! It was definitely fun to watch, and although it isn't really my thing, I feel like I appreciate it a little more now. Also, it's easy on the eyes, mmm-hmmm. Didn't get to stay for the women because it was liftin' time: Snatch: doubles up to 47x2, 49xf+1, 51x1, 52x1, 53x1, 54xf+f, f+f, 50xf, 45xf+1,1 C&J: up to 55x1, 60x1, 65xC+f, f, 60xf,f, 55xf, practice at 45 OHSq: 35x3, 45x3,3, 50x3,3,3 All the snatches leading up to 54 were looking great, but then things fell apart and I lost my groove. Later I regretted trying so many attempts that heavy. I should have just backed off to 52 or so right away and gotten some solid sets in there. Roger was distracted and I wasn't doing a good job of getting his input either. C&Js were a mess after I got up to 65--I just wasn't hitting my positions right. Again it was partly due to greediness. I was sharing a bar and it was just so much easier to use 65 instead of something like 61-62. Thought I could handle it. Holy cow the next meet is coming up fast. I need to work on consistency for realz. It's fun to lift at Holly's, but I need to go where my coach is so I don't make stupid calls this next week.

Wow, that is a really good group. I lifted completely by myself yesterday with no music haha so it was definitely a change of pace. When is your next meet? July 3rd? I saw that one on the USAW site.
Also, I've found that I really like to watch all strength sports (And anything related- like bodybuilding) haha. Powerlifting, strongman, weightlifting, bb, really anything that is close is pretty entertaining. Well, depends for weightlifting and powerlifting haha!

Yeah sometimes I like a quiet, peaceful atmosphere, and other times I like one that's boisterous and full of people. I haven't noticed any relationship between atmosphere and PRs, except that days when people are being annoying I can get distracted. I've had great lifting days when it's just me and Roger and I've had great lifting days when the gym is total chaos. My next meet is Star of the North in Rochester on June 26th. Yikes that's soon! I don't envy the MN folks going to Nationals, though, because they have to come right back and do this meet in order to participate in the MN Cup. Right now I want to see if openers of 52/65 are reasonable. In fact, it would be nice if I could get that CJ opener higher because I SO want to get 75 at the meet. Yes it is fun to watch strength sports! I'd still like to see a strongman competition, although it sounds like Klavetter is getting out of that, so there goes my invitation! So far I like watching bodybuilding more than powerlifting...I have a harder time staying interested at PL meets.

Today was just awful. Everything felt 10-15 kg heavier than it should have. I was missing left and right at just 46 snatch and 50 c&j. It's days like this when I wonder if I'm just making a fool of myself trying to learn this at age 29. I just don't know how to balance work/life, and I don't even have kids! Bleah enough complaining...I'm back in the gym on Thursday, and hopefully things won't feel so hopeless then.

Today I went to my neighborhood gym and lifted in pounds. Things went fine--just a short workout. It's weird lifting with mirrors I think my arms are finally looking muscular and not just thick! Back Squats: up to 165 lbs x 5,5,5,5 Triceps Pulls: 45x10,10,9 Ab Pulldowns: 75 lbs (?) x 12,12,12 Wrist Exercises

Had a great session today! I think watching hours and hours of Nationals helped. Finally getting some consistency back and narrowing in on openers. I made an effort to do more visualization and to practice my extension before I step up to the bar, and I think it helped. I actually had a terrible workout on Thursday that I didn't even bother reporting here. Oh well...I seem to have sorted things out for now. Sleeping in on the weekends helps me a lot.
Snatch: 35x3, 39x3, 42x2, 45xf+f+1, 2, 47x2, 49x2, 50x2, 51x2, 52x1+f,f, 50xf, 1, 1 C&J: up to 58x1, 61x1, 64x1, 66x1, 62x1,1, 64x1, 66x1, c+f, 63x1,1 Fr Sq: up to 70x3, 75x3,2+f, 2, 60x5
Watching Nationals was great. Way to go, lifters!

Another good day today. I got to sleep in a little today, and it makes a huge difference in my training. Roger held me back from going for heavy singles because I trained yesterday, but I still went pretty high with the doubles. He says we'll hone in on my openers later this week, probably Saturday.
Hilary Katzenmeier, a 58 kg lifter in the US team is in town and training at our gym this week, and it's fun to have a guest, especially of her caliber.
Snatch: 35x3, 39x3, 42x3, 45x2, 47x2, 49x2, 51x2, 53xf+1 C&J: 35x3, 45x2, 55x2, 60x1, 64x1,1,1 Block Jerks: 45x3, 50x3, 55x3, 59x3, 62x3,3,2+f,1

Well, turns out my wrist is injured. It's been sore for a while, but now it's actually hurting in a real way. As a result, I had to work around it.
Front Squats: 40x5, 50x5, 60x5 (irritated wrist too much...) Back Squats: 50x5, 60x5, 70x5, 80x5, 85xf, 75x5, 70x5,5, 60x10 Goodmornings: up to 55x5x5 Situps
Hopefully if I baby it and then just have one more heavy day (Saturday) before I taper down, it will be OK for the meet. I'm RICE-ing it right now.
