haha awesome post! I know some of my training partners have had some funny experiences with their warming lotions.. I swear I've had one guy that after pry 10 years of putting on his "capsation" he still figures out a way every so often to put on way too much and to have to take off his knee sleeves, etc. haha!
Just out of curiousity- what kind of distraction? messing around, or someone else not hitting their #'s or?

Basically there's a lot of tension between coach Charley and, well, pretty much everyone else there. I don't want to get too gossip-ey, but his conflicts with various people have been at their worst lately, and when 2 of his trainees came into the gym, everything got all tense and weird. That was when I started missing snatches, but I don't want to blame it on my reaction to them--my consistency has been poor lately, regardless. In general there were a lot of big (and LOUD) personalities in the gym, which sometimes energizes me, but usually just distracts me.
I have gotten a LOT better at working through distractions since I've been at TCB. Sometimes SWSC (the Rochester gym) would be crowded, but for the most part everyone would mind their own business. At TCB on the other hand, there's more socializing (which is good!) and people are more up in each others' business. It took me a few months to adapt to the new place.
I think I do my best lifting when the gym is quiet and I have a limited amount of time to do my workout in. That's basically the opposite of a Saturday.

Today was a tough one. My snatches were a complete disaster and I found myself saying some very un-ladylike things. C&J I was able to go good 'n' heavy, which was nice. I came back to the snatches later and did a power snatch followed by a squat snatch (P+S). This helped me get the snappiness I needed, so I'll probably add these in more often. Squats were a grind--I had definitely been in the gym too long. I changed my stance a bit, so it felt like I was squatting for the first time.
Snatch: 35x3, 38x3, 41x2*, 43x2*, 45x2*, 47x1+f, 47x1, 49x1, 50xf+f,f, 45xf,f blargh C&J: up to 65x1,1,1 Snatch (P+S): 35x1, 38x1, 40x1, 42x1, 44xS+f, 45x1,1 Bk Sq: up to 70x5,5,5,5
The * indicates me doing my first snatch and finding it to be a power snatch, then trying to squat snatch and failing, then hitting it, so it's really a P+f+1 if ya want to get all technical.
I find it very hard to do full squat lifts until I get up to heavy weights. I know some people just go with this, but others think it's a bad habit. There's also the option of squatting down with the bar after doing a power lift...I have a hard time remembering to do that. I guess I'll just let myself do one power depth lift if I'm doing multiples, but the rest have to be squat depth.

haha I bet. It is actually pry good that there is some head butting going on between different people... it shows that there is at least people in the gym to get mad at haha! Some oly gyms don't have the fortune of having too many people.

Very, very true. And don't get me wrong--I am so grateful I found Oly lifting and I live in an area where it's increasingly popular and that I have a gym to train at. I work very well with Roger and I trust him as a coach. I have made good friends and I am very fond of my fellow lifters. I am so, so grateful for all those things.
Clashes can be frustrating on an occasional basis, but in the end I just laugh at the tense or dramatic parts. I mean--what does it take to be a weightlifter? Confidence, stubbornness, determination, perfectionism, fire-in-the-belly, and a little bit of exhibitionism. Combine that with working together day in and day out, and it's no wonder the fur flies sometimes!

Still struggling to fit life and sleep into my work schedule. I skipped the gym yesterday because I was completely thrashed and still felt like a wreck from the last workout. Wanted to get some kind of gym time in today, so I stopped by my local gym and busted out squats and presses in 30 minutes, because that's all the time I had. I wanted to shoot for ~175 lbs/80 kg, but mis-loaded the bar, so it wound up being 185 lbs/84 kg, which is actually durn good for me. Yay! Threw in a few presses too. ALL IN POUNDS BECAUSE THIS IS 'MERICA GODDAMN IT: Back Squats: 95x5, 145x5, 165x3, 185x3,3,3 Presses: 45x5, 50x5, 55x5,5,5 I swear that squat bar weighs more than 45 lbs. Anyhoo, I'm really bummed that I'm missing workouts. It's so hard to keep my eye on the prize right now. We'll see how I do on Saturday...I hope my body will reward me for the rest I've given it.

Lifted weights:
Snatch: doubles up to 45x1+f, 47x1, 49x1, 50xf+1, 51xf+f, bar, 51xf, 45x1, 48x1, 50x1, 51x1, 52x1, 53xf,f, 50x1+f,f,f C&J: up to 55x1, 60x1, 63xc+f, 1, 65x1, 67xf, c+f, 55x1, 60x1, 63xc+f, 1,1,1 Fr Sq: up to 65x5,5,5,4+f + a bunch of forearm/wrist work
Then I undid all my hard work with beer and potluck at a fundraiser ;D
I'm still frustrated with my lifts. I just feel so weak these days. At least it's not as bad as the first couple weeks of work, so hopefully that means I'm adapting. I really wish I had access to bumper plates closer to home. I actually could keep them at my mom's gym, which is moving to a bigger location, but I would have to provide the weights and platform. I would just let people use them. Oh I love to dream about such things...

Holy bananas it's hot out there...and in my gym--thankfully I had the platform by the fan Cut my workout short mainly due to the heat. Just a basic workout, but the nice thing is that I finally figured out what's going wrong with my snatch (LOL). I'd taken the directive of lifting the bar straight up in a perfectly vertical bar path too literally. That was causing me to lift inefficiently and I had started to lose the lifts in front of me (whereas I had always lost them behind me in the past). I need to not so much bring the bar in to my hips, as bring my hips into the bar, and then finish with a nice tall triceps pull at the top so that it doesn't loop out too much. So, as usual, it's stuff I was told on Day 1, but it took me this long to figure out. Snatch: triples then doubles up to 45x2, 47x2, 48xf,f,f,f, 45x2, f+1, 2,2,f+1 (I have omitted a number fails and loud expletives) C&J: up to 55x1, 60x1,1, 62xC+f, 58x1, 60x1,1,C+f,1,1 Feeling a little better about things now that I at least know what I need to fix with the snatch.

haha I don't blame ya, I seem to have quite the temper after misses as well. Not sure where it is coming from but I need to tame it down a bit. I think it's always good to put what you are feeling during the lift on paper. Hopefully you are headed in the right direction- it looks like you have it figured out so it's just a matter of time before you start hitting some smooth lifts again!

Hopefully you are headed in the right direction- it looks like you have it figured out so it's just a matter of time before you start hitting some smooth lifts again! Yeah my temper definitely flares when I'm low on sleep and energy. Also, some temper is necessary for a lifter, I think. Lifts indeed are getting smoother...today I lifted at Holly's house. She has a nice little platform set up in her garage. Something about the change of scenery really helped, not to mention lifting with someone with such sick lifts. I didn't fail as many times today, even though I went fairly heavy. It probably helps that I was in more of a confined space and would risk breaking her fan and stereo if I failed too wildly. Snatch: doubles up to 46x2 (no fails!), 48x1+f, 50x1, 52xf,f, 50x1, f,f,1,1 C&J: up to 60x1, 63x1, 65xC+f, C+f, 1 RDLs: 75x5, 85x5, 95x5,5 I really gotta keep my weight back on the snatches--that solves a lot of problems. Jerks are rolling forward a little, so I just need to focus more to fix that. Cleans are looking damn good, though. I may even have video of that last 65, but it's after 10 hrs of work, slathered in sunscreen and deet, so I'm not sure I want to post it Looking forward to lifting on Saturday, when I think Roz will be coming up to the Cities. Everyone is welcome! It would be great to lift with you guys. Haven't had time to squat. I wanted to today, but Holly doesn't have racks. I may be able to fit in a quick session at the regular gym by my house tomorrow.

Hooray! Finally turned things around at the gym yesterday ;D. Roz came up to lift, and he and Natalie and I set up a little competition with a sweet, sweet cash prize (lol $1) for the best PR on each lift. The pressure was on, not just to PR, but to avoid being the first person to fail a lift. I guess it was what I needed:
Snatch: up to 46x1, 48x1, 50x1, 52x1, 54x1, 55xf,1, 56x1, 57x1 PR!, 58xf,f, 45x2,2 Fr Sq: up to 75x1, 80x1, 85x1, 87x1 PR, 88x1 PR!, 70x4,4,4 Cl Pulls (floor): up to 70x3,3,3
That felt so good. I've been struggling to snatch over 51-52 for several weeks. Also, I felt so bad last week about not squeezing in a squat session, but if I had (as I meant to Friday, but didn't), maybe I couldn't have made those PRs. Right now I just have to listen to my body. The sinus infection that I was almost done with has come back with a vengeance , to the point where I need to see about getting antibiotics. I'm not the kind of person to have chronic, lingering infections--I'm obviously just worn out.
But anyway--woo hoo! lifting PRs!. Charley was telling me to work on pulling up with my arms more at the top of my clean pull. Something to investigate next week. Have a good weekend, everybody!

woohoo! So did you have a clean sweep and win $2 from roz and $2 from Nat? haha that is the really important part! 3 PR's in one day is always something to remember, nice job.
I like creating competition like that, I tihnk it can do wonders.
