I'm a 77kg competitive senior devision Weightlifter. I just competed at National Collegiates with lifts of 105 snatch, 128 clean and jerk, and 233 total- all in kilograms of course.
Last Night I did the following workout. 4/21/10 6:00pm-start Power Snatch- 20X3X3, 50X3,60X3,70X2,80X1,85X1,90X1,75X5X2 Clean and Jerk-20X2X1+3,50X1+3,70X1+2,90X1+2,100,110,120,130,135pr,137(no lift), 137(no lift). Snatch High Pull-70X3,80X3,90X5X3 7:20pm-finish
Today's Workout 4/22/10 1:00pm-start Snatch (straps)-20X2X3,50X3,60X2,70X2,80,85,90,90,80X2X2 snatches felt really good. Clean and Jerk-20X2X1+3,50X1+3,70X1+2,90,100,110,100,110 Clean and jerk felt horrible, it's been less than 24 hour since I hit my Personal record last night. Front Squat-50X3,90X2,110X2,130,150,130X5X3 front squats went ok, I'm capable of a lot more but the heavy clean and jerk seems to have done a toll on me. I will expect a lot more tomorrow. 2:30-finish

2/23 training journal for today 1:00pm Snatch- 20X3X3,50X2X2,60X2,70X2,80,90,95,80,90,95x,95,98x,98x I feel that since I did mostly power snatch this week that is screwed up my full snatch somewhat. The mechanics are close but not the same. I believe in the full lifts. Also I used straps on the snatch the day before which may have been a wrong decision. Clean and Jerk-20X2X1+3,50X1+3,70X1+2,90X1+2,100,110,120,130x,130 (have video on youtube under Simon Klimesh 130 Clean and Jerk, description training lift) Back squat-50X3,100X3,130X3,150X2,170,180,190,170X3X2 Clean and jerk and squats went really well, My best snatch is 105 so I just need to practice it not the power snatch. Overall I felt realy good about todays workout. It seems my snatch was booming for a while, and now my clean and jerk is taking a leap. It goes back in forth it seems, the key is putting them together when it counts.

Sounds like you have a good philosophy to really get dialed in for the next meet (drilll the 2 lifts hard). What kind of a tapering schedule do you follow the week before a meet?
PS- I was also wondering if the arm pumps you do are a kind of "trigger mechanism" to prepare you for a heavy C & J? Very interesting idea if so. Thanks, man.

Sounds like you have a good philosophy to really get dialed in for the next meet (drilll the 2 lifts hard). What kind of a tapering schedule do you follow the week before a meet? If I am doing the Bulgarian philosophy I like to have made all of my really big lifts before the week of the meet. I don't want to be missing any attempts the week of the meet. If you go a whole week with no misses it does a lot for confidence. Generally in the past I would make 1st attempts on Mon with no straps, last warm-ups on Wed, and lighter weights leading up to the contest, maybe 80% on thursay, and 70% on Friday with no straps. PS- I was also wondering if the arm pumps you do are a kind of "trigger mechanism" to prepare you for a heavy C & J? Very interesting idea if so. Thanks, man. The "arm pump" evolved over the years. It's not really an arm "pump" as it is more of an arm "shake". I shake the tension out. I've always shook my legs out to get ride of tension, and same with the arms, it's just something I do. A couple meets ago I did the arm pump/shake thing randomly before I stepped unto the platform and it stuck and now it is a ritual. I'm highly ritualistic as are a lot of athletes. I believe many lifters have set-ups and they do it the same way every time.

I don't think you're a real person. Supposedly everyone I know has met you but I have no idea who you are. Therefore I am pretty sure that you are not a real person. Some type of prank eveyone is playing.

4/24/10 Snatch (straps) 20X2X3, 40X3,50X2,60X2,70X2,80,85,90,95,100x,90,90 C&J- 20X2X1+3,50X1+3,70X1+2,85X1+2,95,105,115,120 (I did a faster dip, seems to produce more power, also a quicker chance from dip to explosion. It worked well. Don't think, just do it fast and go with it, let it happen, you are faster and more explosive than you can imagine. Fast and tight, don't think, just do it, just feel it.) Front Squat- 50X3,100X2,120X2,140X2,150,160 took several hot tub soaks within last 18hrs. Relaxation of the muscles is vital to be able to "quick fire" them up at the precise time needed before lift off. I recommend heat therapy to all.

4/26/10 SN-bar work, 50X2X3,60X2,70X2,80X2,80X1 CJ- bar work, 50X1+3,70X1+2,90X1+2,100X1+2,100X1 BS- 50X3,100X3,140X3,140X1
I consider this workout a warm-up for Tues. workout. I woke up at 7am today and had one of those long stressful days. I kind of had that tired, nervous, pissed off,not comfortable feeling going into the workout so I decided to put in a warm-up workout and look forward to better things to come. I would say this workout is very much like a workout a day or two out from a comp. I didn't get my nap in today and I dislike the gotta keep moving feeling I had going into the workout. The good thing is I felt a lot better after the workout. I did learn a couple things from today's workout. I have a hunch that squatting with at least what you want to C&J in your next comp. daily is a good thing to do. Also it seems wrong not to do a single with the last set regardless of the rep pattern preceding it. I am slowly learning what my take on the Bulgarian system looks like. Tues. should involve some bigger weights for sure, jerk felt strong.

Well, not every workout can be ideal, but it sounds like you made the best of it. I like the idea of squatting what you want to make in the clean, since that's an area I need to work on and my desired lift (75) is a good, heavy FS for me, but not too killer.
I also like the idea of finishing with singles. Sets of multiples are nice for building consistency and confidence, but sometimes I feel frustrated that I'm not able to immediately apply what I've learned to singles when I have to wait 2 days to do them.

4/27/10
snatch- stick work, bar work, 50X2X2, 60X2,70X2,80,85,90, injured my hand/tore a callus Snatch Pull- 60X3,80X3,90X3,100X5X3 Back Squat- 60X3,110X3,140X3,140X6X5
I looked back in my training log and it appears that volume in the squat helps out the snatch and less volume/more intensity helps the C&J. This is something I'm going to continue to observe and record.
