Well, olyroz77 and kingklavetter finally talked me into joining this board! I've been keeping a fitness log on another site for almost a year and half, but I think it's time to shut it down and move on.
OK here's the story. I'm a girl and I was getting fat. Didn't want to buy new pants. I also didn't think that bouncing around on a rubber ball with 2 lb weights or spending hours on the elliptical would get me 'toned'. I started learning about women lifting heavy weights and it sounded cool, so I gave it a try. I began with Rippetoe's Starting Strength but a few months later found the SWSC Olympic weightlifting gym in Rochester and decided that it was even more awesome. I trained there with Roz for a while and started competing and it was a great time. I moved back up to the cities and now I train at Twin City Barbell with Roger Sadecki.
So that's how an obese almost-30 chick with no athletic background gets into Olympic weightlifting. I lost 25 lbs and now I compete in the 75 kg class. My goals are to keep lifting so that I can set some sweet state records in the Master's class once I turn 35. Hopefully by then I'll know what I'm doing! I'd also like to compete in a national meet one day.
My short term goals are to get my snatch to 60 kg (want to see those blues on there at the meet!) and to clean and jerk my bodyweight.
My current maxes in training are (in kg):
Snatch: 54 C&J: 70 Clean: 71 Fr Sq: 86 Bk Sq: 90? haven't tested in a while DL: 120 Press: LOL
Just did the state LWC championship meet and got first in my class (52/68/120)! It didn't go as fabulously as I'd hoped, so I want to iron out some form issues before the next meet, which is in June.

Thanks guys! Now I wish I was going to the gym today so I would have something to post other than 'went for walk' and 'tried doing pull-ups (but still too fat/weak)'. I'll put a hurtin' on the barbell tomorrow, though ;D

Wow- that is a very cool story. Shows that weightlifting can be for everybody and can improve your flexibility, coordination, and fitness levels substantially at any age. Just the athleticism it requires really makes you expand a lot of energy. That is awesome to see it got you hooked. Congrats on the state championship! Looking forward to seeing you hit a 60kg snatch in the near future!

Whoo first real post! FYI I post Weights x Reps x Sets because that's how I write it down. Today I lifted to the dulcet tones of Hungarians shouting at each other. Thankfully, it wasn't as distracting as usual. Snatch: warmup to-->45x1, 47x1, 49x1, 51x1x5 CJ: warmup to-->55x1, 60x1, 63x1, 65x1,1,1,C+F, 60xFF1,1,1 Bk Sq: 40x3, 60x3, 70x3, 80x1,1, 70x3,3 Presses: (all sets of FrBkFrBkFr) ~20x1, 22x1, 23x1,1,1 LOL yeah I hit what should have been my snatch opener at the meet 5 times in a row without a single fail. Definitely had a case of nerves on Saturday. I'm getting better at pulling the bar high and keeping it close. Now I just need to be more consistent with catching it good 'n' solid. C&J I had a temporary case of retardation on the cleans, but overall did fairly well. I still need to get my jerk mojo back, so I think I'll work on them from the blocks on Thursday. Back squats were to get ready for Thursday, when I'm going to test my current 1RM. Previously it was 90 kg, and given how easy today's were I think I can add at least 5 kg. Then I'll start the Russian squat program, this time with back squats. Presses were just for fun, I guess, but I know I'll be sore because I haven't done them in a while. I need more upper body strength! Then I had some awesome post workout nutrition at a new Indian restaurant in Spring Lake Park ;D

You eat the best foods. Have you been to ParkA Korean BBQ on white bear yet? Jerks are always harder for girls just like snatches are harder for guys to master. It's a comfort thing I think.

Heh is that because guys are jerks and girls have snatches? No I haven't tried it out yet, but I need to remember to because the Korean place by my house has the weirdest hours. My jerks were going pretty well for a while but I finally started 'getting' the clean more and now they're lagging. They're always chasing each other.

Also...wtf, body? I'm all sore and twitchy, even though this wasn't a mondo intensity day. Also, 2 days off is pretty common for me since I usually lift 3 days/week. Oh well--I'm probably just old. I'm gonna whup those back squats on Thurs.

It's because usually girls are to delicate with the jerk and over think things. Where as when I comes to the snatch most guys don't consider how technical the snatch is. Guys will just go in and try to just force the snatch into position. A more experienced male realize that this practice doesn't really work on the snatch like it does the jerk. More experienced guys know that it may be frustrating but to get the snatch just right can take hours. Fuck Nicholas Sparks. I write some real beautiful stories sometimes

Thanks Jared!
This board must be a good influence on me, because I decided to do some fitness stuff at home. I always neglect abs at the gym, so I did a few circuits of:
situps or crunches planks hip thrusts
I also did a bunch of pullup negatives and a mobility/stretching routine. I'll probably go for a walk later.
All of this was while watching the fine piece of cinema: The Running Man (1987). Arnold, Jesse, dystopian police state, gladiator gameshow as criminal rehabilitation, huge shoulder pads...quality, my friends.
One day I will have a job and be the opposite of bored.
Chris, I don't know who Nicholas Sparks is but you should punch him in the nose.
