I love reading your log and how much fun you're having with it! Do you have a coach or somebody watching your missed jerks? how are you missing them?
btw. sorry to hear about your "condition" jk funny though. congrats on the pull up

Thanks! Most days I can only do negative pull-ups. I think this is the 3rd real one I've done (well, since high school).
About the jerks, basically it's a mental problem. I'm just chickening out with getting under the bar. It's weird because it came on all of the sudden and it's happening on weights I've jerked before. Also related is that I'm not getting my head through enough.
Here's me at the most recent meet, and you can see I'm not getting my head through or being aggressive enough:
Here's the previous meet and although I am also not getting my head through enough, I think I did better overall on the jerk technique:
The weird thing is that I fail snatches all the time, but I'm not afraid of them. I was also doing power jerks the other day, which I'm much more likely to drop, and I wasn't afraid (though they were much lighter weights).
I think maybe I just need to separate cleans and jerks for a while so I don't keep re-inforcing my mistakes. I can have the same problem off of the blocks, but if I work up to heavy weights gradually it's usually not as bad. My coach is going to be out of town a lot the next couple of weeks, so I'll just play it by ear. I'm open to suggestions.
Also, I have a cold for realz now! Probably won't be doing to much lifting for a few days.

Still sick...lost my voice and coughing up green phlegm. On Thursday all I managed were some broomstick lifts and stretching before I collapsed on the couch. Made it in yesterday for a real workout. Just went up to about 85% of my max. It's mainly my endurance and my focus that seem affected.
Snatch: 35x3, 38x2, 41x2, 44xFF,1, 46xFF,1,1,1 C&J: 35x2, 45x2, 50x2, 55x1, 58x1, 60x1,1,1 FrSq: 40x3, 60x3, 70x3, 73x3,3,3, Press: 20x5, 23x5, 25x5, 27x5, 28x5,4
I imagine my press has improved in the almost 1.5 yrs I've been lifting, but it sure doesn't seem like it.
We'll see how I feel, if I want to go in Mon or wait until Tues. I think I'm getting better, but getting better seems to involve a lot of coughing.

I missed that last post with the videos. Very cool. I appreciate you posting them. Seems like this time of year a lot of people start getting the cold, etc. Keep it up!

I'll definitely keep posting vids. Hopefully the ones from my next meet will be more impressive. Decided to ignore the phlegm and get back into the gym. Things went fairly well, considering. Worked up to 90%-ish. Snatch: doubles up to 45x2, 47x2, 49x1,1,1 C&J: doubles up to 59x1, 62x1,c+f,c+f, 60x1 Bk Sq: triples up to 70x3, 75x3, 80x3,3,3 Pwr Jerks: 35x5, 40x5, 45x4, 50x3, 55xf,1 (PR),f, 47x3,3,3 Snatches were really good. Cleans were nice and snappy, but the jerk started falling apart again. I was trying for closer to 85 kg on the BS but it just wasn't in me. Power jerks were actually supposed to be push presses, but I wound up power jerking and just went with it (more fun anyway). I don't do these often, but I guess 55 is a PR I think I lost a couple of pounds while I was sick. Yay? Ate about 12000 calories of chicken marsala tonight to, uh, get my strength back

haha sounds like some binge eating to me. haha that is a great workout. how long do your workouts generally last?

Heh it was probably a reasonable amount, but the sauce was really rich so it just FELT like 12000 calories.
My workouts usually last ~2.5 hrs. I've tried adding another day to try to break it up a bit (ie doing squats and upper body stuff at a non-Oly gym), but I can't seem to maintain that schedule for more than a few weeks, even unemployed. I envy you guys who can do an AM and PM workout. 2.5 hours is kind of long, huh?
Anyhoo, speaking of employment, I finally got a job! I start in a week--a 6 month temporary gig for the MN dept of Ag trapping beetles. Yay for not being broke anymore!
It's four 10-hr days/wk, so fitting in my workouts might be tough and I'll probably feel thrashed for a couple of weeks as I adapt to my new schedule. Thankfully the next meet isn't until June.

Frustrating workout because it got cut short when I remembered I was supposed to be at a dinner event. I was just having a mental breakthrough with the cleans, too, but I guess I can revisit them on Saturday.
Snatch: up to 45x2, 47x1, 49x1, 51x1, 52xf,f,f, 49x1,f,f C&J: up to 50x2, 55x1, 60x1 Clean: 65x1, ohshitIgottagox1
Turns out my crashing problem was not as much caused by letting go of the bar, as it was by not getting enough speed on the 2nd pull. Now that I'm getting more snappy a lot of issues are resolving. I NEED SPEED.
Also, jerks were feeling better as I thought more about getting the bar into a space behind my head. I think that instinct to keep the bar where I can see it was subconsciously messing me up.
Probably I just need to stop thinking too hard and lift.

I have done MULTIPLE pull-ups today! Not in a row, just throughout the day...I think about 6. I also got new gym pants. So far, weekend is starting out well

It's crazy! I usually gain strength in bursts like that, though.
Today I had to open and close the gym, so I knew I'd be there for 3+ hrs. Took my time and had a Snatch-o-Rama, in which I refused to give up. No PRs, but I'm finally getting back up to my pre-meet lifts. I don't know how I ever got 54 kg (my PR)...that seems like a distant memory now.
Tried for my 'clean deferred', but couldn't get past 70. I kept crumpling, so I think I need to work on core strength and plain ol' being stronger so I can get more snort on the second pull. That bodyweight clean & jerk must be mine!
Snatch: up to 45x2, 47x2, 49x1, 51xf, 50xf, 50x1, 51x1, 52xf, 36x2, 52xf,f,f, 51x1, 52x1, 53xf,f, 50x1,f lol ok enough snatches Cleans: up to 55x2, 60x1, 65x1, 68x1, 71xf,f, 65x1,1,f,f Fr Sq: 50x3, 60x3, 70x3, 75x3,1, 72x3,3,3 Press: 25x5, 27x5, 29x5,4, 30x2
I was pretty fried by the FS so I had to fight for those. Press I am finally improving on. I'll have to hit jerks hard next time since I skipped them today.
My weight is down to just a hair over 73 kg and I got my lifting belt to the 3rd holes. Hooray not being a fatass!

Looks like quite the marathon session haha, good job. Do you feel the press helps your jerk?
Ps- congrats on the new job.

Thanks Jared! Oof marathon session indeed...later walked 3 miles to go see a play 'near' my house, and I think I pushed my body a little too hard. Had that twitchy overloaded-CNS partial sleep all night. Oh well--going to a barbecue today with lots of food and relaxation.
I don't know if the press helps my jerk, but I think it's important I build muscle in my upper body, since I started with virtually none. I like improving my press more for a personal goal than for aiding my other lifts. I'm sure it helps in a general way, such as with using my body as a unit, core strength, shoulder stability, and increased blood flow to the area.
Also, they don't take very long, so I can easily fit them into the end of a workout.

Is that what that super light sleep comes from? I took 50mg of Benadryl last night and I still couldn't sleep for shit.
