FYI on the bacon jerky- Be careful making jerky out of fatty meats, I've never had success making it into anything other then discusting chewy crap.
Also, how many months now on 5/3/1? And when was the last time you maxed?

I was gonna cook it out, and put it through the food processor or some such thing with some other lean meat like turkey, then make that into strips. Never made jerky before, does this sound like anything resembling a workable plan?
mmm, since the beginning of the summer, no testing of 1RMs since then, but have a decent idea of where I am and don't feel the need to. Bench and squat have seen most progression, press is awful, deadlift depends on the day.
I know I could have made more progression than I have. Stressful circumstances have been a huge wrench in the works and training suffers, but that's personal crap that everyone has and I've just got to do what I can. I hate it though and have got to just cope with it better. The all-or-nothing mentality is such a demon. I really like some of "The Addict's" articles up on EFS lately that talk about the stupid mindset that everything has to be done at 100% or not at all. It's really true and something I have got to get over. Sure in a perfect world... but this isn't. Do your best with what you can at the time instead of quitting because shit's not ideal. Now if I could learn to apply this.

Merry Christmas to all!
This training at home has been sort of a nice change though I can't do much very heavy. I dragged our super sketchy rack up from the basement and set it up... again in the living room... and have been really consistent with just getting some work in. Usually some sort of 5x5 scheme I can handle with no spotter, 2-3 accessory lifts at 5x10 or so. Weighted push ups in place of bench. Jump rope for conditioning.
Is this lame? I mean, there is the attitude that "if you were hardcore man you would walk to the gym..." but I'm having fun and putting in regular work. I'm happy.

I think if you're not having fun you're not lifting to your highest potential. You could have all the best equipment around you but if you're not into it you just won't lift hard. So, if you are doing something productive and enjoying it, you'll work harder and won't even realize it.

Sounds good Phil. Circumstances have changed again that I could go back to the gym if I wanted but I'm just going to ride the wave as it were. I'm definitely not worried about getting weaker by any means.
I have been really trying to work on being crisp (I think I was getting sloppy with DLs and squats especially) and bringing up my abs and tris which are definitely a weak point. Trying to widen out my squat stance a little and the lighter weights/higher volume is a good opportunity for that.
Oh and also loving that I can train barefoot.

Hangin in here. I haven't even been logging in my log book, just paying attention from one lift to the next how the weights feel and raising the weight if I feel like it from lift to lift , but no pressure to do so. The mental vacation is definitely needed. I like it. I'm starting to realize what a toll the last year or more has taken on me emotionally, and I just transfer the stress to training, being so performance oriented. I don't need that. Anyway, still a day a week for sq/dead/press/push.

I definitely hear you on the all or nothing mentality. I either wanna train like ten hours a day or not at all ha. Or. Its like impossible for me to start hardcore training on any day but Monday where I feel its a fresh week and can give it my all. Our minds are so powerful and weird like that...its really toughs to keep idle for a while. But keep working hard and hopefully things get better for ya

Well I got a wild hair tonight and decided to just pull some singles. I hit 255 which is a 30 lb PR and twice my weight.
It felt good, not even really a grinder and my back felt nice and set.
FYI when lifting on carpet chalk on the bottom of the feet makes slipping go away. :-)))

Oooh I have been awarded the beast status!!! Woohoo! Thanks guys. Deadlift has always been good to me. Press, on the other hand...I gotta figure out how to fix that.
Doing some weighted push ups today, inverted rows, DB presses, blah blah. It's time to get back in a real gym, this isolationist thing is running its course. I have some bench fever.

Went to test the squat today. It was honestly a stupid decision because I jump roped in between pressing for a good 45 minutes yesterday. I bombed 145 which I've done for 3 before. I got in the gym and was also way messed up by the different environment/mirror/lots of people/etc. That's not to whine. Just how it was. OK I did complain a bit like I said to Alex I could sit on the couch for a month and my deadlift would go up. I've been stuck under 150 on the squat for EVER. I'll try again next week, test bench, and get back on the 5/3/1 train. C'est la vie... fall and get up. OK... commence rant... HEY DOUCHEBAGS!!!! DON'T STEAL MY FREAKING PLATES OFF THE RACK IN THE MIDDLE OF A SET!!!! Don't steal them at ALL!!! Seriously? You ASSUME I'm not going to use the 25s? The lack of etiquette drives me nuts. I'm not being cocky. It's MY rack while I'm in it, bros keep your paws off ALL of it.

Presses today, pull ups, CG bench, kroc rows, tris, abs. Will have to lower the training max on the presses.
I am hoping for 5/3/1 for PL to come out soon. I'm thinking of switching to that format. Basically it's 3/5/1/deload the premise being you don't train heavy any two weeks in a row. Also, you only do the required reps instead of going for as many as possible on the last set, then do two 90% singles. Whatever, I just want the ebook to come out so I can read it!
