OK, geek time. I thought I would try to start asking a trivia question about weightlifting or strongman (usually historical). See if you guys like or not.
This week's question: The highest all time snatch ever done in a world championships or olympic games: Name the athlete and the weight lifted. The first to post the answer correctly wins respect only. Thanks.

haha ok... no researching this either- just go simply by memory. My answer off the top of my head:
I have always heard you talk about Kurlovich(sp.?), Mikhail Koklyaev has hit 210, Hossein Rezazzadeh has hit 213 I believe, and 212.5 in the 2000 olympics. I know some freak has hit 216. 216 seems to be the # that sticks out in my head back in the heavy roid era(I say heavy because lets be real, they're still roiding), and because I know I have heard misha has hit 216-220 in training which would be above the WR...
I am not sure who it is... back in the roid era the russians and bulgarians were insane.. since kurlovich was a russian(I think), I am going to say some bulgarian although I know I couldnt recall the name.. and probably have only heard it a few times.
my guess some bulgarian at 216, then reza at 213. that chigisev(russia) hit 211 I believe as well? crazy hard looking snatch haha.

Close enough. Good work. Antonio Krastev (Bulgarian) 1987 WWC - 216. Some interesting side points: Krastev claimed to hit 222.5 in training! He was so confident at one point that he actually attempted 227.5 (the magic 500lbs)! Kurlovich was next with 215 (easier than Krastev's 216) at the 1989 WWC in Athens. Kurlovich hit 212.5 at the same WWC that Krastev did his 216. He accompanied that with an easy 260 C&J for the all time best total of 472.5! It gets better. On his 3rd attempt he called for 266, and I think he got it! Would have been an unbelievable 477.5 total and all-time best C&J! He only weighed around 120 kilos, too. Compare Kurlovich's 266 miss to Reza Zadeh's 263 good attempt at the 2002 WWC. I think Kurlovich's 266 is just as good. I didn't know Koklaev has hit 216+ in training. Unbelievable. Another amazing snatcher was Yanny Markovich from Bulgaria. He did 220 (with straps) in training. He usually was less than 120 kilos BW! (This is the guy that eventually defected to Qatar.)

haha its all good. holy cow who in their right mind attempts 227.5. That is just sickening. Seeing all those #'s thrown around makes me almost wish steroids were completely legal in the sport haha- just to see what the freakiest guys could hit. I wouldnt have been able to recall that name. That contest would have been unbelievable to watch, a 212.5+260 and a 216.... my gosh

Andrei Aramnau(sp.) the 105kg guy hit 200kg at the olympics.... I wonder if he were to put on some weight what he could hit. He is 20y/o.

Aramnau is a stud. His numbers now are every bit as good as anyone from the "golden era". If there was still a 110 class, he would match Zakharevich's numbers. I bet he does at least 210 in training (at his walk-around weight).

He is a sick, sick man. Almost reminds me of the Fedor of MMA, not impressive looking- no emotion, but gets the job done
