Most people I've seen do this because they are extremly inflexible and can not deep squat without there heels leaving the ground. Oly shoes are better than planks of wood. As far as building speed? I really really doubt it. Explosive exercises like wind sprints, hill sprints, plyo drills and oly lifts increase speed. How many fast BBers or PLers do you know?

True... I haven't heard too much about this, I could see the general thought of why someone would think it would increase speed. I'd need to see a LOT of research before. But, a 2x4 isn't much of an incline anyway- just a little more severe than oly shoes. and bb players and football players are known to have very tight achilles so I could see where it could just for flexibility as well. Might have to look this up on some spare time
