Yeah and from what I've heard it's a pretty common phenomenon after really heavy lifting days. Last night was particularly bad because my spinal erectors are all tight and achey, so it was hard to get comfortable.

I definitely hear ya.. Some people get some good carryover while others don't seem to. That makes sense... I hear ya on the whole sleep thing, I remember being SO wrecked after some strongman sessions.

I felt a lot better after 11 hrs of sleep! Took it easy on the competition lifts, then went for a jerk PR and made it! So who knows...maybe the press does carry over after all. I think it was more about me getting in the right head space, though. Previous best jerk was 69 (after a clean, but today I was lifting from the blocks).
Snatch: up to 42x2, 45x1+f, 47xf+f,1,1,f,f, 45x1 C&J: up to 50x2, 55x1, 58x1,1,1 Jerk: up to 65x1, 67x1, 69x1, 70xpo, 71x1 (PR!), 72xf,f,f, 61xf+1 BkSq: up to 80x3, 86x3, 80x3,3,3
Totally didn't have the fine control I needed for snatches today. The gym was really crowded, but it was a fun atmosphere and not too distracting today. Roger wanted me to do 90x3 on BS but I was too wiped out so we dialed it back.
As fun as it is to go nuts and lift way too much when the coaches are out of town, it was good to get feedback today, and one thing that helped me a lot was slowing down my dip on the jerk. Now my jerk is higher than my clean, so I'll have to catch up! I might have to throw a party when I clean and jerk 75 kg.

Congrats on the jerk PR! Can't wait for you to hit 75 so we can party lol.

Good things keep happening, which is cool because I was just starting to get frustrated in the gym. I worked my first 10 hour day and had to mega-rush my workout. It went great! I think my breaks have gotten too long, which makes my lifts sluggish. Going fast got my adrenaline pumping more and kept me from over-thinking. Leading to....snatch PR! 54 kg-->56 kg whoo hoo!
Snatch: up to 47x1, 49x1, 51x1, 52xf,1, 53x1, 54x1, 55xf,f,f,1 PR! 56xf,1 PR!, 57xf,f C&J: up to 55x1, 58x1, 60x1, 62x1,1,1 Bk Sq: up to 70x5,5,5
All that in about 1:15! Not sure if I can maintain that pace for heavy C&J but for now it's good for snatches. Definitely hit a wall of tiredness around the 55 kg CJ (didn't sleep much last night either), so I was dragging ass after that.
Damn those snatches were beautiful. Right in the slot, keeping my hips low, good power. Snatch...slot...tee hee!

Indeed...I love C&J PRs because it means I can spend more time on the snatch, which is my favorite lift. I'm a masochist like that.
Today there was a jerk competition ('jerk-off') between two of the lifters at my gym. It was very exciting! I had started my workout, but I was failing snatches left and right (feeling sluggish this morning), so I decided to focus on loading and then go back to my workout later. That worked out better.
Snatch: (after restarting) up to 45x2, 47x2, 1+f, 2 C&J: up to 58x1, 61x1, 63x1, 65x1, 67x1 (messy), C+f Fr Sq: up to 75x3,2,2,2 Cl Shrug: up to 85x3,3,3,3 mixed with: BHN Press: 20x5,5, 25x5, 27x3, 25x3
Right now my jerks feel so much stronger than my cleans. Cleans have improved, but once I get up into the 60s I'm crumpling too much. I'm going to add some more clean work in next week. Hence the clean shrugs. Between sets I did behind the neck presses--is that what 'supersetting' is?
The soft tissue in my left forearm has been hurting, and it's aggravated by jerks. I don't know why just the left arm. I'm going to try icing it after the gym and see how it does.
I don't work Monday, so hopefully by then I'll feel more energetic and can have a good workout. Gotta get those C&Js where I want them to be!

Out of curiousity I looked back at my notes for a year ago. Looks like I PRed on C&J with 53 kg on April 29, then had a mini-meet on May 2 with a 40 kg snatch PR (only got 50 kg for the C&J). I weighed 80 kg. Feels pretty good to see that my C&J is almost 20 kg higher and my snatch 16 kg higher. Basically I could hit both of those old numbers without a warmup. Anyhoo, cheers to progress! Have a good weekend, everyone

Well, I set out to work on cleans and some accessories for them, but I got distracted. Felt kind of like a Saturday in the gym, so I played around a bit. Workout got kinda long.
Snatch: triples up to 42x3,3,3 Clean: doubles up to 55x2, 60x2,2,f+1,2,2 Partial RDLs: up to 75x5, 80x5,5,5 Block Jerks: up to 60x3,3,3 DLs: 110x1,1, 100x3+shrugs,3+shrugs Pause Bk Sq: up to 65x3,3
Lighter weights and higher reps resulted in very few fails, which was nice. Cleans just feel damn heavy over 60 kg and I don't catch them as erect as I would like. So we tried out my back strength, but as usual I'm not lacking. The DLs later on were just for fun because a couple other lifters were using that same weight, so I jumped in on a few sets.
Jerks were fantastic! Best they've been in a long time. Slowing down my dip, making sure I'm not putting more weight on my front foot when I dip, and splitting wider are all helping a lot.

Yeah, singles are king for sure. Had my first day of work today and wasn't sore at all from the deadlifts. Better push it more next time! So far my new job seems great--I get paid to drive around and walk around outside all day!

Minnesota Department of Agriculture, trapping emerald ash borers (a nasty invasive bug that kills ash trees). I range all over the east metro. So far it's pretty amazing. It is also GREAT to finally have a job!
