The thing that stood out for me was the 2nd heat. For their size, Savickas and Shaw were impressive athletically. Both have an amazing combination of power and athleticism. Add in Felix and SSP, and you had an entertaining heat, even though the top 2 guys ran away with it. The level of competitor from top to bottom in each heat is more impressive than I've ever seen also.

You are absolutely right. I caught the last 2 events in the final. Mariusz looked about the same size as he did back in his early early years... crazy he can still perform those feats of strength at that BW and after tearing a bicep. Much respect to big z, shaw, and derek as well.
I think mariusz raising z's hand at the end gained him a TON of respect. You didnt hear him going and saying "yeah, but I tore my bicep 5 months ago so no training for 2 months," he simply raised z's hand in respect that z was the better man in 2009. and.. z was the man in 2009, 9-0!!!!

damn good final.that was the best group of 10 strongmen i have ever seen.my thoughts...
too bad Travis was so sick before the qualifiers.i was impressed with how he smashed shit in the finals though and placed 5th.if it wasn't for his poor finish in the farmers he would have been higher,4th place.Lbstone would have been 5th.
i don't know what happened to Derek.hopefully next year he can come back in top shape.
Ostlund impressed the hell out of me as well, especially after tearing his bicep.he'll be back next year.
i was very impressed with Darren Sadler.even though he's only 5'8 and 258lbs,that little guy is a beast and strong as shit.he has tons of potential, but his lack of height and weight is always going to hurt him.i would like to see him make the finals someday, that would be awesome.
Mariusz is just sick now.325lbs ripped to the bone.he's basically pissing deca,GH,testosterone and cocaine and whatever the hell else he throws into his drug cocktails.he will be DAMN lucky if he lives to see 40yrs of age.i'll bet his liver/kidneys are just CRYING for some help.however,i have NEVER seen someone tear threw the farmers like he did.that was awesome.very impressive, especially only 5months removed from a bicep tear.as long as he's around he's ALWAYS going to be top 3.after the stones,BigZ should have turned around and slapped Pudz in the face,in return for what Pudz did to Lbstone last year ;D
Phil Pfister is still the man,and one of my favorites.
Mark Felix is the man at the deadlifts.43yrs old.he looked like he could have repped that 800lbs easily.
Brian Shaw is a giant.that guy is going to be dangerous from now on.he has all the tools.as long as he stays in top form he could be the next guy to dominate like Pudz has.
and finally....
BIG Z BABY!!!!
its about damn time.my favorite strongman.humble in victory.soft spoken.no arrogance WHATSOEVER unlike some others ;D he deserved this victory.he has to be one of the strongest men on the planet right now.you couldn't ask for a better showdown at the stones:BigZ/Mariusz.and BigZ made Mariusz his BITCH!!!!i loved it.hopefully BigZ can come back in top form next year and take the crown again.you couldn't ask for a better champion than him.

Awesome thoughts Connie... very good observations. Brian Shaw will be VERY dangerous at the Arnold, Fortissimus, and at WSM this year... I expect him to make all 3 podiums!!!!!

Wow. Awesome analysis. That pretty well sums things up. I too thought it was a deep deep group of finalists who produced some great results. Savickas amazes me. Mariusz raising his hand at the end was awesome - props to him. Shaw could easily win multiple titles. That farmer's event was very cool. Wish the axle would have been featured more, but every year the overhead event gets lost in the finals coverage. Still very entertaining.
