what i call strict is 1) bar only goes up (no dip) 2) no leg drive what so ever. 3) bar starts on chest (like front squat)

what i call strict is 1) worthless 2) terrible 3) pathetic
hahaha jk jk. I completely agree Phil- There is a big difference once you load by bringing the bar down first (but still not a push press).
I have been doing it every so often now that I can't do any of the full lifts.

Haha - you dredged this up again. With all due respect to those that think differently, I am more convinced than ever that it should have no place in a strength athlete's repertoire. The reason I am more convinced is because of how much I have realized that SLOW lifts will make you slower. In other words, will not help you on a more dynamic lift like a log or axle clean and press/jerk or a barbell C & J.

The only time I would say strict presses would be good would be if your lower body was injured. As in if u had no legs.
Colin...have u seen your push presses help out your oh since you've been doing primarily them

Hard to say what exactly it has been that has helped my OH over the past 20 wks. My OH volume was crazy high, and honestly, I should have reduced it sooner as I started to get little "tweaks" each time I trained. I think doing a bunch of pp helped really force me to remember to PRESS through lockout, which is obviously very important in strongman. This vs mostly the push jerks I had been doing. I would have to say the biggest help has been the OH against bands, as well as heavy board presses.
I also agree with vince, only a little different. Who says a strict press has to be slow? At 50-60% bar weight, + some bands/chains, that is pretty dynamic....

I like viper pressing...does that count as a strict press, or more of a strict press? I'd say both?

I wouldn't call that strict, when I do it right I am not even really engaging the triceps until the log is at my nose.
But I do really like them for increasing log strength.
