Finished my first week of work and I'm dog tired. Too tired, in fact, to get up and dig out my notebook. Here's approximately what I did today:
Snatch: up to 54 for a single C&J: up to 62 for 3 singles Clean + Hang Clean: up to 55 kg for 4 (missed one hang clean) Fr Sq: up to 65x3x3 RDLs: up to 75x5x3
Felt like I had more in me on the snatches, but I'm saving it for Saturday when we have our snatch-off. Gonna BRING IT ON. I've been feeling really weak on my squats, so we're going to shift my program a bit so I squat first at least once a week so I can give it more effort. Jerks were looking good, cleans were looking decent but need improvement.
So, no matter where you are, start snatching at noon Saturday CST to join our snatch-off! You get 3 attempts after warmup and whoever has the best PR wins. Nat and I are heading to Rochester to lift with Roz (and others?) while TCB will be lifting in St Paul at the same time. Not sure how we're normalizing it--probably the amount of the PR as a percent of the weight lifted. But whatev...it's all about fun. Report results by text or on these boards! YAY SNATCH, THE QUEEN OF LIFTS!

Dang... that sounds fun. I may have to join, although, I would be VERY lucky to hit my current PR at this point.

hey. That sounds pretty awesome. I may have to try to join you. I was planning on going light the rest of the week, but may have to change that for a little competition hehe

Well, it's quite possible no one will get a new PR, in which case the scoring will be based on whoever gets the closest (ties are possible). Yes, join us! To inspire you, here's a list of some of the recent PRs you'd be up against. Men: Dan (94): 120 Ben (94): 110 Roz (77): 118? I think Justin (105+) may join in too, not sure what his recent PR is. Women: Holly (63): 70 Nat (63): 60 Katie (53): 60 Me (75): 56

So who had the biggest snatch growth?

Well, no Ripley's Believe-it-or-Not snatches today. Good solid lifting but no snatch PRs in the cards. It was a super fun time, though, and I hope more people can make it for the next Liftstravaganza. Roz kicked some serious ass on the CJ and did 150 no prob. I believe Simon got a total PR too, which was impressive.
Notebook = getting up from chair, but I did something like:
Snatch: up to 53, 55, 57 then a ton of attempts at 55 (all failed) C&J: up to 68xc+f, c+f, 1, 70xc+f, c+f, c+f Bk Sq: up to 80x2x6 (reps x sets) Press: up to 35 kg (PR)
Snatches....oh snatches. The slow-mo replay helped me understand what's going on. Looks like I'm doing the first part of the lift picture-perfect up through the extension, but I'm catching it all loosey-goosey and losing it. I've known this was an issue for me for a while, but seeing it on the big screen really drove it home. Time for some snatch balances.
CJ was an attempt at a PR, but no dice. I lost my footing a couple of times on the fancy-pants SWSC platforms. I don't know wtf was happening with my jerks, but my back knee hit the ground a couple of times.
Back squats I did in the style of the Russian squat program in case I want to start it up again. Press was a PR, but I hadn't done singles in ages, so I feel more like I was testing my baseline than trying for a new 1RM.
Then we ate donuts and fondled each other's butts, which I'm sure y'all are sad you missed out on. Afterward, I went home and ate a massive steak. Basically it was an amazing day.

days like that are really what makes me love weightlifting. A bunch of people in the same place trying to set PR's! I love those atmospheres.

Unfortunately, today was not nearly as good My squats are going down Just a couple of weeks ago I was front squatting ~75 kg for doubles and triples with little trouble. Now I'm struggling to get above 65 kg, and it's the same story for back squats. I know it's just the exhaustion of my new job and getting way less sleep, but I hope I can adapt to it soon. In some ways it would make more sense for me to go to the gym more days to spread out the work, but I have so little time right now that I can't imagine fitting in the gym on more than 2 work days/week. Argh. I tried to work on catching my snatch more solidly. Hope I accomplished something. Snatch: doubles up to 47x1, 49x1+f, 45x1,1,1 Snatch + 2 Hang Snatch: up to 45, 47, 47 Drop Snatch doubles: up to 41, 41, 45, 45 (a number of accidental power snatches and fails) Front Squat: up to 60x2, 65x2, 70x1+f, 65x2, 67x2,2,2 Very few snatch fails from the floor. I think I'm getting better at catching it, but the real test will be when I can attack some heavy singles. Also, any kind of lift from the hang can go suck it. I think my arms are too long or something, because when I bring the bar down it just bruises my thighs and makes me cringe and start fearing the bar. Roger apparently has no such trouble, so he was mystified by my frustration.

Be patient! Your squats will come back up. There will be the adaptation phase for a few weeks but just keep plugging away, it will come back!!!

Thanks Jared...it helps to be reminded that this too shall pass.
Another night of bad sleep, but training was decent. Today I squatted first so I could put more effort into it. It felt SO much better to be doing them fresh instead of when I'm falling apart at the end of training.
Back Squat: 40x5, 50x5, 60x5, 70x5, 75x5,5,5 Snatch: doubles up to 43x2, 45x2, 47xf+f,2, 49xf+1, 51xf,f, 45xf+1,1 C&J: 35x2, 45x2, 50x2, 55x1, 60x1,1,1
So depending on who you listen to, I either didn't push myself nearly hard enough OR I did things just right. All I know is I used the energy I had and focused on form, form, form. I am on the verge of a breakthrough on the snatch. I just need a few nights of decent sleep.

Hooray I had a C&J PR! Went from 69-->71 today...creeping up on bodyweight. It helps that I did C&J first today after catching up on much-needed sleep.
C&J: up to 55x1, 60x1, 65x1, 68xf,1, 70xC+rebound, 71xf, C+f, 1 (PR!) Snatch: up to 50x1, 52x1, 54xf,f, 50xf, 45x1, 50x1, 53xf,f,f etc... Power Jerk + OHS: 35x3+3, 40x3+3, 43x3+3, 45x1+3, 48x1+3 OHS: 45x3, 48x3, 50x2, 53x1,1, 55x1, 57xf,f, 55x1,1,1
I've been awaiting that PR, since I jerked 71 a few weeks ago and it was over a month since I made a CJ gain.
Snatches are kind of a mess right now, but an educational one. I can tell I'm making progress but it hasn't translated into a PR yet. Keeping my ass down, keeping my body tight, getting more speed...just gotta put it all together one of these days.
The power jerks were just for fun--I like doing those a lot. I would jerk it up a few times and then OHS it a few times since it was already up there. Charley got a bug up his but because was using clean grip, so I switched to snatch grip and transitioned to heavier singles.
For mother's day I got my mom a freezer full of meat (best daughter ever!), and I had to leave to get to the meat shop before it closed, so the OHS wound up being my squats for the day. Not good enough, so I will squat first on Monday and go good 'n' heavy.

Thanks klav! First I gotta get myself a freezer full of meat! I'm moving later this summer and the place I'm looking at has the perfect spot for a big ol' meat freezer. Glad you liked Ocampo! Dan and I would drive up to Mpls from ZM just to get tacos there.
