I may have to try one. I was going to get one a while ago, but never did. def seems like a great idea. Thinking either a foam roller or "the stick"

Very nice-- it's been a few months since you've felt real confident on the bench huh?

what could you hit on a max set of strict pullups? That is one thing I noticed about you- with your grip, bicep, and back strength I bet you could do some serious pullups..

That's pretty amazing done in that strict of a style Connie. thanks Vince.i might have to stop the pullups though for a couple weeks, the tendonitis in my left arm/elbow is starting to flare up again.we'll see how i feel next week though.i have to listen to my body now, because if i don't it doesn't cooperate.

That is a very solid # Connie. You are a thick dude in the upper body, that's for sure.
Do you feel a pretty big carryover from your close grip bench to your regular bench? .I know with my style of benching in the past my close grip always had a tremendous carryover, just curious if yours does as I know you take a much wider grip than I do...

i do closegrips for my triceps, because i can't hit them directly anymore because my elbows are so bad.i always try to do a different grip on my assistance work than my normal bench grip.

Emmetsburg meet is tomorrow. My partner Lance is lifting raw,as is a 20yr old kid i'm training.it will be his first meet.this is a bench only meet.i might also compete tomorrow, not 100% sure yet.we'll see how i feel in the morning.if i do lift,i'm going to make sure i don't bomb,so as to not screw up my next month or so worth of training.if it takes just 1 attempt, than its 1 attempt, and i go home.i have a good chance of getting back to 400 in the summer and i don't want to screw that up.but i don't really care about myself competing anyways,i'm really excited for my 2 guys.hopefully they both smash tomorrow!
no log this week either,i took the entire week off from everything.

3/27/10 Emmetsburg Bench Press Meet
i weighed in at 224,so i was in the submasters 1 242lbs division.300 was my opener, smoke show.335 was my 2nd,my left shoulder blade slipped off the bench (it was a VERY narrow bench,i hate those) but i got it easily,it was just a little uneven press.345 was my 3rd attempt, smoke show, got it easier than i did 335.i got 1st place.i achieved what i wanted to at this meet, which was to NOT FAIL.everything felt great, and i believe i had 365+ in me today,so i'm really looking forward to the IA Games and the State Fair now, providing i can remain injury free.
Lance weighed in at 212,he was in Masters 1 220lbs division.280 was his opener, smoke show.300 next,a little harder, but a good lift.315 for 3rd attempt, and it buried him.he accomplished what he wanted, which was to bench 300 in a meet.300 is a 20lb raw PR for him,and it got him a 2nd place trophy.i'm very proud of him,as he worked his ass off to get that 20lb PR.
Will, the 20yr old kid i'm training, weighed in at 197,so he was in Novice 1 198lbs division.this was his first competition as well.he opened with 250,smoke show.275 next, smoke show.300 last, and he missed it by about 4 inches from lockout.he got 1st place, and in his first meet too!and i've only been training him for 3wks now!he has unbelieveable potential.he has big numbers awaiting him in the summer.
all in all a great meet,i really enjoyed this one.and i'm very happy for my 2 guys, they both did great today.i posted a picture of us with our trophies on my facebook.

Wow. Thanks for the write up and great job. Tell Lance incredible job, that is the sweetest # to hit! Although, 3 wheels is also pretty monumental in the bench press world. I'll have to check out the pictures later, but nice work. I like your approach- sometimes ya gotta live to fight another day and prepare for a bigger battle ahead!
