a little backstory on myself...
32yrs old, married to a wonderful woman, and have 3 kids,2 girls and a boy, ages 12,9,and 7.currently 205lbs.have been powerlifting since 2003.only deadlifted in a meet once in 2004 at Oskaloosa,IA, pulled 570lbs at 198lbs bodyweight, failed at 585lbs.never squatted in a meet.bench is (was) my specialty.took 1st place at IA Games and IA State Fair last year,198lbs division.was training extremely hard for the IA Games and State Fair this year, got a new bench shirt,Titan Super Katana 1ply.ended up having severe nerve damage in my left bicep because of the tightness of the sleeve of the shirt.my *musculocutaneous nerve* is not in the right place in my arm,and it was damaged almost to the point of rupture.last good bench day in the Katana was the 1st week of may and i hit 545lbs 4 times to a 3 board.but because of the nerve problem,i'll probably never compete equipped again.then,at the end of may,i completely tore a disc in my back.i also ended up getting sciatica and plantar fasciatis in my left foot and leg because of the back injury.i was out of work for 8wks,and out of the gym for 10wks.went from 218lbs bodyweight down to 204.i started training again 4wks ago (upper body).because the torn disc will never fully heal,i'll probably never squat or deadlift again.but i do hope to compete in the bench press again someday, hopefully next year,as long as my back cooperates with me.and i will be benching raw from here on out as well.i will be starting back on the 5/3/1 next week for bench and standing military press.for bench,we will be alternating waves of paused reps with touch and go reps.before i hurt my back,i was able to rep 405 for 2 or 3 reps on the bench.yesterday,i hit a 355 bench.not too bad for having 10wks off from the gym because of a bad back injury and losing 14lbs of bodyweight, but also not as good as i'd like, but i'll take it.my core strength has taken a major hit from the back injury, and i feel it in every exercise i do.i got an inversion table that i've been using,to take some of the pressure off of my back, and i've been doing standard crunches on the floor,as well as some pulldown ab work.those are the only core exercises i can do right now that don't hurt.so as long as my back holds up,i'll post my workouts here.
take care guys.
