I have not read the three days a week book. I've read the 5/3/1 book quite a few times because I always pick up something new.
Aside from that the most helpful thing I've read is a layout from SandBlaster over on IronAddicts (Jared can I reference another forum?) on regulating your assistance. Obviously I have not taken that advice to heart! LOL
I guess for now I'm going to drop the volume and specifically address my triceps. Trial and error for my specific weaknesses now I guess.
It's great to have discussion but also to have people are in the gym with you who are more knowledgable! Nielsen and I are both really grateful for Jared and Alex's help.

In regards to the 5X5- I know Wendler's go to is the 5X10. I don't like that, I think 10 reps for 5 sets doesn't allow enough weight to be used. For adding volume I like the 5X5 personally, and if I'm doing high reps( anything 10 or higher) I lower the sets. You're not the first person I've heard say both those things. (And just to clairfy FTR that's not a slam to Wendler in anyone's case. 5/3/1 is the baseline, you build what works for you off that foundation. The building is where I'm having major growing pains. :-)) Thanks for your help CW!

I am pulling the plug. I should have taken a week after the end of the last cycle. I felt great and hit PRs. Since the beginning of this cycle it has been grinding. I haven't been sleeping, just barely hit my squat reps and not my bench, have not enjoyed training at all, and the past few days I feel like the fried end of a live wire (dude, I literally have buzzing noises in my head haha) and I think I am dropping weight too fast this last week. Right now I'm looking at gritting my teeth and plowing through to try and finish this cycle in time to deload before the meet and seriously? That just feels like three weeks of misery to me. If I don't enjoy this what is the point?
I am going to take this week (I'm visiting my brother), relax, train light, eat well, and what happens happens. The status quo sucks big time and I don't care about the meet at this point, I can't even lift the freaking weight. We'll see what happens.

I support this Lucy; I know you love to train and you've such an encouragement for me to get off my duff. One thing that is important, more important than a meet - is learning how your body responds and then disciplining it accordingly. I know you have been re-learning this but - in the coming years you'll be able to know when to ease down and better prepare for a meet but also, you'll be much healthier. Enjoy your week, and relax - feed your body.

Prowler in the rain (which Doug Adams says sounds like a Milli Vanilli song. LOL) 2 plates on blacktop.
I dunno, about 12 trips of 40 yards or so, some pulling from the low handles.

I completely agree... No matter how hard the work is, it should be fun. I think you are making a smart decision.

I completely agree... No matter how hard the work is, it should be fun. I think you are making a smart decision. and 20 hill sprints? seriously? haha that is crazy!!! I built up an enormous capacity for hill running in Kentucky. We had some mad long steep hills. I think I could give Jim a run for his money. Hill runs are the bomb. Blasted flat Iowa. My other favorite energy w/o I came up with when we were living in Texas. We were living in a very bad apartment complex with a "gym" which consisted of among other things two broken treadmills. So I just hung on to the front bar and pushed the belt. Does that make sense? Basically running on a treadmill without turning it on. 20 seconds belt pushing 40 seconds rest, repeat. Awesome! (meaning you will want to collapse and die) I have to figure out where to jump back into training from here. Meet... no meet... how to prep for meet? No idea. This has been an AWESOME break. I have been riding around in a Lamborghini drinking fantastic wine and eating incredible food and hearing some great music for about four days straight. Everyone on this board is stronger than I am, but I claim best deload ever! ;D

hahahaha that post was hilarious. I say still do the meet. I think you will still set some PR's from the rest and feel really fresh. You might win the best deload ever. And, I know exactly what you mean with the treadmill. That is brutal. PS- I told the crossfitters that you were interested in doing crossfit.. so they might hound you even more... JK.

PS- I told the crossfitters that you were interested in doing crossfit.. so they might hound you even more... JK. Bahahhha!!!! You're funny. I was lugging my brother's drum stuff into his singer's basement last night and Doug was all "She lifts weights, she can handle it!" His buddy hollered (and I had just met this guy) "You do Crossfit?" I hollered back "Nope!" and he yelled back "Good!" That was the extent of our conversation. LOL! The odd part was that he was awfully skinny, like about-to-snap skinny.

I'm back in the gym... Our computer crashed and posting from my phone is tedious so logging will be sparing. Saturday military press, wide grip pull ups and CG bench.

OK, I have been training but for some reason this page is too long for my phone to load.
Started back up on the cycle I'd ditched. Lifts are back up. Changed some assistance work for this cycle: CG bench in place of dips; snatch grip DL; hack squats, although I pull them from the floor so I'm not sure if it's still considered a squat... pull ups/chins 5x10 instead of 10x5.
I've been doing some heavy prowler work after deadlifting because the DLs mentally tax me and the prowler doesn't require much mental effort. Squat days really stress me out but after my work sets I'm usually on a kind of high. I love to DL but after those days I don't even want to think about assistance. The prowler seems like an easy out... Someone yell at me if this is a bad idea... ? Or am I too emotional about all this???!!!!! LOL...
My favorite Dick Marcinko quote has been smacking me over the head lately: "You don't have to like it, you just have to do it!"
