5.8.10 SN- 100, 105, 107no lift CJ- 130, 139no ift, 139
I qualified for nationals! 244 total! 11kg PR total! up from 233 at collegiates three weeks ago! What has changed? why did I lift so well today? I have trained Bulgarian style the last three weeks and it works for ME. 250 total is my goal for Nationals!

Simon that is so wonderful, and I am incredibly happy for you! Your gains are amazing. It sure does sound like Bulgarian is a good approach for you. Keep kicking ass!

5.11.10 BS- 1205X2
I know what you'll are thinking, I'm not doing much for heavy lifting this week but take in mind those 10 singles @ 80% yesterday were no cake walk and I'll be doing them again a couple more times this week. I was told by John Drewes of the Red Wing Weightlifting Club to not go so heavy this week, what can I say, I listen to John. I'm not too worried, this week seems like it will be a re-charging week and also a week to focus on technique with the drilling of singles. My snatch felt great yesterday, do you think it's because I was capable of my 107 snatch last weekend that I failed to lift? definitely! The 10 singles with 110 in the c&j were actually hard yesterday, I was so gassed! Next week I will start my three weeks of heavy everyday bulgarian style routine before the week of the meet when I will train much like I did the week of the Carroll meet. I will be going for a 250 total at nationals, something like 110 and 140 but I'll take any numbers that equal 250. I figure my jerk went up 11kg from collegiates and my snatch stayed the samed for the carrol meet so now it's time for my snatch to go up 5kgs and my jerk to go up only 1kg.

Meet write up:
The meet was held in Carroll, IA about 4 hrs away from my parents house in Spillville, IA where I now train. First I must give you a little history. I haven't been weighing much lately, I've been under 77kgs all the time according to my legit scale. So, I woke up the day of the meet and was more than a kilo under much like I was the day of the collegiate meet where I eat the tremendous twelve at Perkins the morning of the weigh-in. So what did I do for the Carroll meet, you guessed it, I eat the tremendous twelve again at Perkins the morning of the meet thinking it would ensure the success I had at collegiates. Me and my dad get to the Carroll meet site late, with like 10 min left for the weigh in, even though I could have weighed in late, I wanted to do it legit. So I step on the scale and I'm over by a couple tenths of a kilo on the meet scale. I immediately walk to the men's rest room and force myself to vomit to get rid of the tremendous twelve. The day is not going so well, I'm nervous and freaked out about the weigh-in, but I step on the scale and make weight. The next few hours are spent trying to calm down and move on from the events of the difficult and unexpected weigh-in. Warm-up for the snatch went well and I ended my warm-up with a 95kg snatch before going out for my opener with 100. I snatched 100 but I had to walk forward to save it, it was not a confidence booster, but I asked for 105 anyway. My 2nd attempt with 105 was better and more in line, so I asked for 107 on my 3rd which I feel I made a good attempt at but jumped away from a little. So I ended with 105 in the snatch, not bad, equalled my personal best and I hadn't made that weight since collegiates three weeks ago and this 105 was stronger this time. This means I would need 139 to qualify for nationals and do the 244 total. I warm-up for the clean and jerk and I have to admit my jerk did not feel that strong. I eventually decided to stick with my 130 opener. I came out for 130 and the jerk was a little shaky, not a confidence booster. I had now set a PR in the total so I asked Greg Kustra if I should go for the national total and said yes. I told him it would take 139 and he told the officals I would be taking 139. Ater a little wait I attempted 139 and missed the jerk. I had remembered reading recently that you shouldn't try a weight that you missed again unless you knew what you did wrong, so I asked Greg what I need to do different. He said drive the bar longer on the jerk and worry less about getting under it. On my last attempt with 139 I gathered up all my energy and got personally involved with the weight, there was emotion on this one. I made an easy clean and gave everything i had on the jerk and made it! I qualified! As Jared knows I went berzerk at this point and jumped on everyone I knew. It is a moment I will never forget and I'm sure no one who was there will ever forget.

Amazing write up! I always love reading write ups as I Get to see different athletes perspectives. Very interesting about trying 139kg again. to be honest when I saw you warming up I was unsure how high of a CJ you could get that day! It proves that sometimes it is mind over matter. Great stuff Simon and thank you for posting your write up!

I can understand why you were unsure of my clean and jerk Jared, as they didn't feel nearly as strong as they were in weeks past. I think once you get good enough at weightlifting all weights 90% and above are "hard", but you complete them anyway. You know?

Great write up Simon. You had a great day. Just shows you can never give up even if things don't seem the best initially.

Way to fight for it. Make sure to remember the shaky start and self doubt you overcame--to great success!--the next time things don't go smoothly. Thanks for the write up
