Roger DeGarmo Memorial Weightlifting Meet
This meet was held in the weightlifting weight room at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. This was my first time counting my own attempts. Officially I weighed in at 83.3 kg, a little light. There were 10 men in the competition. I was the only lifter in the senior 85 kg weight class. Snatch went well. My warm ups felt a little rushed. I hit my opener at 82. I hit 86 on my second attempt and hit 90 on my third attempt. 3 for 3 on snatch. I timed my warm ups a little better for clean and jerk. I hit my opener at 116. Tried for 121 but missed the jerk. I felt that the jerk was pretty close on 121 so I decided to stick with my plan of trying to hit a 1 kilo PR. I tried for 126 but missed the jerk again for my third attempt. The jerk for 126 felt better than the jerk for 121. Since I knew I wasn't going to go 6 for 6 after missing 121, I figured I might as well just go big still. There was a pretty strong junior 85er there who opened at 135 on clean and jerk but missed all three attempts. I ended getting best lifter with a total of 206, which was the best total out of all 10 lifters. Overall I was disappointed with my performance in the clean and jerk, but snatch went well. I felt that I could have gone heavier, but I wanted to stay concervative and hit good numbers on snatch.

Thanks for the write up dude! Great job snatching, and, that jerk will definitely come along. I like to see that you went for it given that it was a smaller meet! Mine as well try for a PR, heck what do ya have to lose? Keep working hard man.

They seem to hav eyou sticking to pretty basic movements... I like it.

I see the weightlifters and Coach Sigmunt all the time, but I don't talk to them a ton. I talk to Donovan Ford and Pat Judge often. I have met Casey Burgener and Jackie Berube also. I have seen Natalie Burgener, too. I want to try to talk to the lifters more. Most of the lifters have left or are leaving for worlds. As for programming, I have been writting my own programs for a while. I get help with technique from the strength coaches, or if one of the weightlifters is hanging around the Strength and Conditioning weight room. I have the strength coaches look at my workouts once in a while to make sure things make sense. I like to keep it simple, I just need to be proficient at the lifts and build some strength. Jerks and snatch are my main focus right now.

Another solid day... were the clean pulls from the blocks (below knee) something you thought of doing yourself, or?

Pulls from blocks was something that Amanda Hubbard did a lot when I was at Michigan. I never really did pulls from the blocks before, only clean and snatch from the blocks. In my next phase I am gonig to do pulls from the blocks above the knee and then from mid thigh. I need to work on moving the bar faster after the knee so I though pulls from the block would be a good idea.
